John D. Heins is senior vice president and chief human resources officer of Spherion Corporation (NYSE: SFN). Founded in 1946, Spherion® is a leading recruiting and staffing company that provides integrated solutions to meet the evolving needs of companies and job candidates. Employing 300,000 people annually through its network of approximately 700 offices, Spherion is one of North America’s largest employers. Appointed in October 2006, Heins focuses on organizational and leadership development, talent management, workforce planning and employee relations.

Heins has more than 25 years of experience in human resources and management and spent the last 11 years with JM Family Enterprises, most recently as vice president of human resources strategy. While there, he also served as vice president of human resources and administrative services and director of corporate planning and human resources services. During his tenure, he led the company’s efforts to gain entry to Fortune Magazine’s list of “Top 100 Best Companies to Work For” and has helped it maintain that position for the past eight years.

Heins took on responsibility in 2007 for all administrative functions. In addition to human resources support, the law, real estate, business meeting services and risk management functions also report to Heins.

Prior to joining JM Family Enterprises, Heins worked with Florida Power and Light for 14 years in a variety of roles, including manager of human resources planning and commercial operations.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and operations research management from the University of Florida.
